2008 Pioneer Days Schedule

Pioneer Days 2008 will be held from July 6 through 12.

Sunday, July 6

• Old Towne Festival will offer live music, food, children’s games and a beer garden from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Old Towne Festival Park on Tobin Street.

Old Towne Geocaching and Walk Michigan event will begin at noon with instruction in the Negaunee Senior Center. The event is free an open to novices and veterans of the field. Call 315-2617 for details.

• Iron Range Hockey will have their second annual family-style pig roast from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Negaunee Senior Center. Call 475-6433 for details.

 

Monday, July 7

• Negaunee Senior Center will offer continental breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Cost is $2.

• Negaunee VFW Post #3165 will have an open house from noon to closing. Call 475-9183 for details.

• Negaunee Senior Center will host Senior Appreciation Day with free entertainment, cake and coffee from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

 

Tuesday, July 8

• Negaunee Senior Center will offer continental breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Cost is $2.

• NHS Class of 1939 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.

• NHS Class of 1948 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center. Call 475-9195 for details.

• NHS Class of 1954 will have a luncheon at the Negaunee Senior Center.

• Negaunee VFW Post #3165 will have an open house from noon to closing. Call 475-9183 for details.

• Michigan Iron Industry Museum will offer “Getting From Europe to Upper Michigan: The Immigrant Experience” by Barry James at 2:00 p.m.

• Pioneer Day Variety Show will be held at Mitchell United Methodist Church at 7:00 p.m.

 

Wednesday, July 9

• Negaunee Senior Center will offer continental breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Cost is $2.

NHS and St. Paul’s Classes of 1949 will have breakfast at 9:30 a.m. at Country Kitchen in Ishpeming. Call 475-6470 for details.

• Negaunee Historical Museum will have free admission for senior citizens from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Call 475-4614 for details.

NHS Class of 1951 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center. Call 485-1178 for details.

NHS Class of 1952 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center. Call 486-9455 for details.

• Negaunee Elk’s Kids Day Parade & Games begin at 11:00 a.m. with line-up for the bike parade. Food, games and prizes will be offered from noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Negaunee Ice Arena, and pony rides will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Call 475-4401 for details.

 Eastwood Nursing Center will have a carnival from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to enjoy games, food and a petting zoo.

Ecumenical Salad Luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church on US-41. Cost is $5 per person. Call 475-9161 for details.

• Negaunee Senior Center will offer a soup and sandwich luncheon, open to the public, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $4 for seniors and $4.50 for non-seniors. Beverages extra.

• Local 4950 will have an open house at Ronn Hall, located at 1206 Baldwin Avenue, from noon to 4:00 p.m. Brats, chips and beverages will be served.

• Oldtimers Fastpitch Softball Game will feature Negaunee against Marquette, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at LaCombe Field.

• 14th Annual Car Cruise & Sock Hop will be held at Pasquali’s on Teal Lake Avenue. Drive in is 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.; cruise begins at 9:00 p.m. and sock hop starts at 9:30 p.m. Call 475-4466 for details.

• Negaunee City Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the band shell at the top of Iron Street.

 

Thursday, July 10

• Friends of the Negaunee Library will have their annual used book sale from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center. Call 475-9053 for details.

• Negaunee Senior Center will offer continental breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Cost is $2.

• NHS Class of 1956 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.

• NHS Class of 1959 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center to start planning for their fiftieth reunion. Call 475-9896 for details.

• NHS Class of 1960 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.

• Negaunee VFW Post #3165 will have an open house from noon to closing. Call 475-9183 for details.

• Eagles Aerie #1944 will host an open house from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Grilled food will be available, and a dance will be held from 8:00 p.m. to midnight with the Tiny C. Hart Band.

• Mitchell United Methodist Church, located at 207 Teal Lake Avenue, will host their annual pie social from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Call 475-4074 for details.

• Central U.P. Fishing Association will have a fish boil from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Negaunee Elk’s. Cost is $8 per plate for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger.

Pioneer Princess Pageant begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Negaunee High School Auditorium.

• NHS Class of 1988 will have a mixer at 7:00 p.m. at Rookie’s Bar. Call 346-7811 for details.

• Social Night begins at 8:00 p.m. Downtown Negaunee.

• Knights of Columbus will host an open house, beginning at 8:00 p.m. The public is welcome.

• 8th Annual Dick Koski Scholarship golf outing will start at 8:00 a.m. at Wawonowin Country Club in Ishpeming. Cost is $50 per person or $200 per four-person team.

• Negaunee Senior Center will offer continental breakfast from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Cost is $2.

• NHS Class of 1950 will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.

• NHS Class of 1937 will meet at 11:00 a.m. at the Negaunee Senior Center.

• Negaunee VFW Post #3165 will have an open house from noon to closing. Call 475-9183 for details.

• Carnival BINGO will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Negaunee Senior Center. Light lunch available.

• St. Paul’s School will have an open house from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

• NHS Class of 1956 will meet from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Negaunee History Museum.

• St. Paul’s All-School Reunion happy hour begins at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. and music and socializing.

• Range Bank Pioneer Days Two-Mile Fun Run/Walk or 10K Run to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters begins at 8:30 a.m. at Range Bank in Downtown Negaunee. Registration takes place from 7:15 to 8:15 a.m. Call 475-7801 or visit www.bbbsmqt.org for details.

• Negaunee Senior Center Breakfast Fundraiser will offer a delicious homemade breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. The public welcome; cost is $5.

• Eagles Aerie #1944 will have an open house with grilled food before and during the parade. Call 475-9584 for details.

• Negaunee Elk’s Lodge will host a cookout from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The public is welcome. Call 475-4401 for details.

• The 29th annual Pioneer Days Parade begins at 11:30 a.m. Line-up begins at 10:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “Memories of Negaunee.” Please note the parade route has changed this year due to construction.

• NHS Class of 1978 will meet at Chapper’s Pub immediately following the parade.

• Knights of Columbus 46th annual picnic will take place at their hall after the parade, featuring Bingo, food and a raffle.

Pioneer Days Community Picnic takes place from noon until dusk at Teal Lake, featuring food, beverages, music, pony rides, new children’s games and more.

• BINGO will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Teal Lake.

• Firefighters Tournament will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Teal Lake.

• Ironstock Music Challenge begins at 4:00 p.m. and continues until dusk at Teal Lake. The two winning bands from the preliminaries (held on June 19 and 26) will battle it out for the top prize.

• NHS Class of 1983 will have their 25th reunion at 6:00 p.m. at Larson’s Restaurant. Call 485-4978 for details.

• NHS Class of 1958 will have their 50th reunion at 6:30 p.m. at Wawonowin Country Club. Call 475-6850 for details.

• NHS Class of 1968 will have their 40th reunion at 7:00 p.m. at the VFW in Negaunee.

• Blue Notes will play at 9:00 p.m. at Teal Lake.

• The Negaunee Fireworks Display begins at dusk over Teal Lake.

• 13th Annual Alumni Softball Tournament will be held at LaCombe Field, beginning on Friday, July 4. Call

• The U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum (the only national museum in the U.P.) is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Admission is by donation. Group and guided tours are available. Call 485-6323 for details.

• Carp River Gardens will have their open gardens and plant sale from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., July 6 through July 12. Call 475-5017 for details.
