Games will be six innings long with the following mercy rules in effect: · A maximum of 7 runs can be scored by a team in any inning · The 15-run rule applies after 4 complete innings · The 8-run rule applies after completion of 5 innings and takes effect at the moment it occurs. 2. Home plate includes the plate and the mat. Any pitch touching the mat is a strike. The mat for 2009 will be altered to the following dimensions: 21” wide, 60” deep. 3. There can be an unlimited arc for the men, but there is a 3-foot limit for the ladies. 4. If the batter steps on home plate or if his or her foot is completely out of the batter’s box while swinging the bat, he or she is out. 5. A “double-bag” will be used at first base for the safety of the players. Irontown will purchase the double bag and allow use of it by the city and other leagues. 6. Only aluminum bats supplied by tournament committee are legal. 7. All games will start when scheduled, or within 5 minutes of the previous game, if it runs late. Every team is required to be ready to play when announced and the team’s line-up card must be made available to the scorer 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Minor changes can be made after submitting the batting order. 8. There will be no infield or outfield practice before games. Teams must be ready to play when called upon. 9. After each out the ball must be given directly to the pitcher. No throwing the ball around the horn. 10. If a player wears metal spikes to a game, he or she will be disqualified. 11. Each team must have a minimum of nine players from their class in their line-up. If a team has less than nine players, they shall forfeit OR take an automatic out per inning for the player they are short OR may pick up a spouse of a player in the line-up (one spouse limit) OR may pick up a player who is an NHS grad who is older. All players picked up must be done so in a mutual agreement with the opposing team. 12. All players must be in the batting order. Defensive positions may be rotated at any time. The only exception for someone leaving the lineup is by injury. An automatic out will be recorded for those leaving the game for a reason other than injury or required to leave as they are emergency personnel (EMT, firefighter, etc.). 13. Courtesy runners are permitted if reported to scorer’s table prior to the game. This rule is not intended to let any person gain an advantage with speed. Injury base-runners are allowed with the person recording the last out becoming the new base-runner. Once a courtesy runner is used for a player, that player must use a courtesy runner for the entire game. 14. A minimum of two women must be in the field at all times, with exception for classes out of school 20 years or more (1989) prior. An automatic out per female player not in the field will be issued for every inning that this rule is violated. Designated Hitters may be used by teams with at least 10 players or more. Each team may have more than one designated hitter (DH). A DH may not be called out unless they reach first base safely. If there is more than one DH, then each DH would rotate in the batting order. Example (1)-, If team has only one DH.... DH starts first inning. Team must go through entire batting order before DH is used again. Example 2- team has multiple DH’s rotated. One designated hitter is used per inning. DH starts the inning then regular batting order. DH1 starts first inning, team goes 3 up, 3 down…DH2 would start 2nd inning etc. If a team goes through entire batting order in one inning, DH is not used again in the batting lineup until the next inning. For teams in lower bracket (1990 & after) the DH is used if more than 2 women are playing on a team. Example: A team has 4 women playing; the 2 women in the field would count as regular batters and can be called out at any time. The other 2 women could be used as a DH as described above. All four women can rotate onto the field for defensive purposes. 15. All plays that occur at home plate are force-outs, and do not require the runner to be tagged. If the ball beats the runner to home plate and is caught, an out is made. The catcher’s domain is 24” in front of the plate, and the runner’s domain is anywhere on the mat. Runners who go more than halfway to home plate must continue to home plate. \They cannot return to third base or an automatic out will occur. The catcher cannot make a tag on the runner at home plate. 16. In the case of disagreements, the home plate umpire will have the final decision. There will be two umpires for the semi-finals and championship game. 17. All teams are requested to use good sportsmanship at all times. Foul language and/or excessive arguing may cause disqualification from the game and the tournament. This tournament is not intended to get someone hurt by rough play or by being ridiculed; it’s intended to let everyone have fun. 18. Combined teams must stay within their decade, i.e. 1970-1979 is a decade. 19. Game play will consist of 4 balls and 3 strikes. If batter hits a foul ball on the 3rd strike the batter is out. NOTE: Rule change for 2009, any ball going into a fenced-in yard in NOT an automatic out. 20. Entry fee is $50 per team, and must be paid to the scorekeepers prior to the start of the first game a team plays in the tournament. It is up to the individual teams to collect money and make change. 2007 results are not available |
