Irontown seeks bands for second Music Challenge

NEGAUNEE—The Negaunee Irontown Association is looking for a few good bands—actually, the best bands in the U.P.

In its second year, the Ironstock Music Challenge will feature twelve of the U.P.’s top cover bands in a competition to win a $1,000 grand prize and four $200 preliminary round prizes.

“We’re excited to expand our event again this year,” committee chairperson Dini Peterson said. “Our goal was to make this event twice as big, and we’re on our way. It’ll be bigger and better this year.”

Twelve bands will be chosen out of the total applicants to participate in a preliminary round, which will be split between two venues on four nights. Each band will play one set either at Rookies on Thursday, June 4 or June 18 or at Chapper’s on Thursday, June 11 or June 25. Both events will be held from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m., and will be open to the public with no cover charge.

Judges will pick one band from each venue to advance to the final round, which will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 at the Pioneer Days Community Picnic at Teal Lake. The four finalists will battle it out in front of the judges and huge crowds, and one will be named the second Ironstock Music Challenge winner.

Bands will be judged on stage presence, musical talent, musical diversity and crowd interaction. This is a slight change from last year’s rules.

Band who wish to enter can download an application and information sheet here or call 486-8084 or stop at Chapper’s or Rookies for an application or visit the MySpace pages for any of the organizations. Entries must be postmarked by Friday, May 15.
